Zocor Side Effects: What you need to know to avoid getting sick

What's Zocor?

Zocor (simvastatin) belongs to a group of medication called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins." It minimizes ranges of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing ranges of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL).

Zocor is used to decrease cholesterol and triglycerides (kinds of body fat) within the blood.

Zocor can also be used to decrease the chance of stroke, coronary heart attack, as well as other coronary heart complications in individuals with diabetes, coronary cardiovascular disease, or other risk elements

Zocor is used in adults and children who are at least 10 years old.

Essential info about Zocor

In rare cases, Zocor can cause a situation that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, top to kidney failure. Contact your doctor immediately when you have unexplained muscle mass discomfort, tenderness, or weak point particularly if you even have fever, uncommon tiredness, and dark colored urine. Never take Zocor in larger amounts, or for lengthier than suggested by your doctor. Follow your doctor's dosing directions extremely meticulously. Using too much of Zocor may cause serious or life-threatening side effects.

There are many other drugs that should not be used together with Zocor. Tell your doctor about all medications you use. Keep a list of all your medicines and show it to any healthcare provider who treats you.

Prior to taking Zocor, tell your doctor when you have ever experienced liver or kidney disease, diabetes, or perhaps a thyroid condition, if you are of Chinese descent, or if you drink more than two alcoholic drinks daily.

Zocor can harm an unborn baby or cause birth defects. Do not use if you are pregnant.

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice might communicate with Zocor and direct to possibly hazardous effects. Do not consume over 1 quart of grapefruit juice every day.
